The Disability Discrimination Act 2005
NEW: 'The promotion of human rights rather than the policing of them!'
The DDA now places a duty on public sector organisations, to promote disability equality from December 2006 and this will inevitably include all their suppliers.
Under the new legislation certain bodies have a duty to produce a Disability Equality Scheme and involve disabled people in the production of the scheme to:
* Promote equality of opportunity for disabled persons and others.
* Eliminate discrimination that is unlawful under the act
* Eliminate harassment of disabled persons related to their impairments,
* Promote positive attitudes towards disabled persons
* Encourage participation by disabled persons in public life
* Take steps to take account of disabled persons impairments, even where that involves treating disabled persons more favourably.
NWDAF is taking a leading role in the delivery of Disability Equality Action Training and we are currently devising a timetable of in-house and external training sessions to meet the current DDA requirements.
So please do not hesitate to contact us for up-to date information on course dates.
